What happens to the chat.
- On your device
- Choosing the file, reading it, the statistics, the strain index, the charts and the on-device stress level all happen inside your browser or the app on your phone. Nothing is sent anywhere for that step, and closing the page discards it. You can use CareCheck this way and never send anything.
- The deep read is optional, and we ask first
- The deeper reading is the one step that sends part of the chat off your device. CareCheck always shows you what would be sent and who would receive it, and waits for you to agree, before anything leaves. If you decline, nothing is sent and you keep the on-device reading. If you tick "remember this choice", CareCheck will not ask again on that device; to undo that, open this page and use the withdraw button below.
- What is sent, exactly
- If you agree, CareCheck builds a condensed extract and sends it over HTTPS. The extract contains:
- Counts and dates: messages per month, hour-of-day totals, how often certain kinds of wording appear, and how the recent period compares with earlier ones.
- Up to about 1,000 of the other person's messages, word for word, with their dates: the ones the on-device pass flagged, any lines about giving up, the most recent three weeks, a sample of longer messages, and a random sample for comparison.
- A small number of your own replies, included only where they give a flagged message its context.
- The two names as they are written in the chat, so the reading can address the right person.
- Who receives it
- Two parties, and no others:
- Fugumobile (the maker of CareCheck), on our own server at vision-suite.ai. Our server acts only as a relay: it holds the extract in memory for the length of the request and writes neither the extract nor the report to disk or to any database.
- Anthropic PBC, 548 Market St, San Francisco, California, USA, whose Claude API performs the reading as our processor. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, inputs and outputs sent through the API are not used to train their models and are not retained after the response, other than any short-lived processing needed to return it. Their policies are at anthropic.com/legal/commercial-terms and anthropic.com/legal/privacy. We are satisfied these give your data protection equivalent to our own commitments here.
- What it is used for
- One purpose only: producing the reading you asked for, which is returned to your device and displayed there. It is not used for marketing, profiling, advertising, or improving models. The report is not stored by us; it exists on your phone until you close the app, unless you export or print it yourself.
- Withdrawing permission
- If you asked CareCheck to remember your agreement, you can undo it here at any time. Future checks will ask again before sending anything.
Because we keep no copy of any extract or report and there is no account, there is nothing else for us to delete. To clear what is on your device, use "Clear app data" in the app's settings, or your browser's site-data controls.
- No accounts, no advertising
- There are no accounts, no advertising, and no third-party trackers. A short-lived, anonymised counter limits how many deep reads a single connection can run per hour.
- Anonymous usage analytics
- So we can see how many people use CareCheck and where they get stuck, our own first-party analytics records which pages were opened and which steps of the flow were reached, against a random id kept in your browser. It also records the kind of device you are on (for example "iPhone App" or "Windows Web") and your country, worked out from your device's own time-zone setting rather than from your IP address or any location service, so it is a country and never a location. It never records any part of a chat: no message text, no names, no file names and no part of a report. It is not shared with anyone and is not used for advertising. If your browser sends a "Do Not Track" signal we record nothing; you can also switch it off for this browser by running
localStorage.setItem('cc_no_track','1')in the developer console, or by using private browsing. - Your responsibilities
- Use CareCheck only with chats you are part of and have a legitimate reason to read, in order to care for someone. Do not use it to surveil, control or gather leverage over another person. You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you, including data protection law where the other person lives.
- Not medical advice
- CareCheck is not a medical device and does not provide a diagnosis, treatment or clinical advice. Reports are a reading of written words and can be wrong. If you believe someone is at risk, contact a qualified professional, a crisis line, or emergency services.
